Our Story
Before there was a warehouse café in Thornbury, there were long camping trips with friends — cooking crêpes outdoors, gathering around makeshift tables and discovering how something freshly made with love could turn an ordinary setting into something memorable. Those early moments shaped what we would become - makers of food that brings people together, sometimes in places you least expect it.
While our original idea to bring a mobile crêperie to remote camping spots proved overly ambitious, that sense of surprise still defines us. There’s something special about stumbling across a French crêperie along the Darebin Creek Trail — the same spark of joy as indulging in apéro hour or Crêpes Suzette in the middle of the Australian bush. It’s that contrast we love: refined French tradition appearing where it feels wonderfully unexpected.
A customer once described our crêperie as an “unexpected bubble of happiness”, and that feeling is something we try to recreate every day.
Today, from our Thornbury warehouse café to events across Melbourne, our purpose remains the same — to share the joy we feel when cooking and eating with the people we love, creating memorable moments through care, creativity and good food.
Little Yarra Crêperie began around a campfire
At the heart of Little Yarra Crêperie are Bianca, Dougal and Hugo — shaping its flavour, spirit and direction each day.
Bianca trained at Atelier de la Crêpe in Brittany, grounding the crêperie in traditional French technique, but always drawing inspiration from Melbourne’s vibrant and diverse food scene. While she now leads the business management side of the business, she is still often seen on the pans, keeping close to the craft at the centre of it all. Dougal, our Scottish-Australian barista and crêperie host, welcomes guests into the warehouse café with warmth, humour and exceptional coffee. Our lead crêpier Hugo brings his French-Australian heritage and a deep respect for craft to the pans each day, combining technical skill with an intuitive feel for flavour and balance.
Together with our wider team, we’re a small, hands-on group who care deeply about what we do — and about the people we cook for.
